Walworth Garden Farm is a local charity that has been in operation since 1987, transforming a former derelict site in a heavily built up inner city area of Southwark into a well stocked garden farm and training centre, that provides provides environmental education, training in horticulture, beekeeping courses and garden maintenance services.
For young visitors, the wildlife area where they can see frogs jump and mini-beasts on the prowl, is a new source of delight. For many others it is the first time they will have seen an apple growing on a tree or helped to lift a potato from the ground.
The environmental and educational facilities of the Farm are promoted by practice and training. This is highlighted in the mission statement of the Farm. “To work with the local community to increase the understanding of organic and ecological issues, to contribute to sustainable development in London and to improve the local green environment.”
