Striking new ‘bollart’ to line St Thomas Street

The London Bridge area is a cultural hotspot, however our streets and public spaces can be a little backwards in coming forwards. Although there is some excellent public art to be found in isolation, a stroll through the area doesn’t reveal too many indications of the unique heritage and buzzing creative community that helps characterise modern London Bridge.

Along with partners Network Rail, Team London Bridge saw an opportunity to bring a snapshot of the area’s colour and vibrancy to the newly opened entrance to London Bridge station on St. Thomas Street, just meters from the foot of The Shard.

MTArt and artist Jennifer Abessira were commissioned to create a temporary, creative interpretation of the London Bridge identity to greet commuters and see their journey in a new light.

French artist Jennifer Abessira is used to such challenges. She specialises in using images which reflect cultures and communities and she assembles them to create a meaningful and colourful narrative.
