March Diary

Check out highlights from the array of events and activities taking place this month in the vibrant area of London Bridge…

Josiah McElheny – The Crystal Land @ White Cube | 1st March – 13th April

‘The Crystal Land’ is an exhibition by Josiah McElheny, narrating a decade of the artist’s efforts to visualise alternative histories of Modernism. Presenting works made between 2008 and 2017 in various mediums, including sculpture, painting, film, installation, photograms and posters, the exhibition asserts McElheny’s view that ‘reconstructing history’ can be a creative process itself and that aesthetics are always political.

The Super 16mm film Island Universe (2005?08), shot on location at the Metropolitan Opera, is presented on a continuous loop in the auditorium every Sunday for the duration of the exhibition.

Demo Kitchen with The £1 Chef @ Borough Market | 10th March | 12.30 – 2.30PM

Borough Market welcome the original £1 chef, Miguel Barclay, for a special demonstration promoting his new recipe book, One Pound Meals.

Obsessed with creating simple and straight forward recipes, Miguel has been experimenting with this style of cooking for the past 10 years, where he started posting photos of his £1 meals on Instagram. Now he wants everyone to be able to get on board, with his new book showing just how easy it is to cook seasonal recipes on a budget. And where better to pick up ingredients for these meals than Borough Market? With produce available to purchase individually, you can buy exactly the amount you need – and a simple meal whipped up in no time at all.

Join Miguel on Friday 10th March, 12.30-2pm and be inspired by delicious dishes, created with a (very) small budget. Tips, tasters and recipes all available. This is not one to miss.

Objects in Focus @ The View from The Shard | Sunday 26th March | 10.30AM – 4PM

Join The View from The Shard on the last Sunday of every month to get your hands on history! The Museum of London will be at The View from The Shard running complimentary object-handling sessions from 10.30am to 4pm.

See and touch artifacts discovered on the foreshore of the River Thames and archaeological finds from the London 2012 Olympic site.

Access to ‘Objects in Focus’ is included for all visitors to The View from The Shard.

The Velveteen Rabbit @ Unicorn Theatre | 17th March – 15th April

Join the Unicorn Theatre as one of their biggest hits returns for a third time after a Broadway transfer. The Velveteen Rabbit is a heart-warming story about a very shy toy rabbit who longs for nothing more than to become real. He spends his days waiting patiently on the nursery floor, watching the Boy play with other toys and dreaming of being picked up and loved. And then, one day, he is rediscovered and all his hopes start to come true…

First published in 1922, this classic American tale loses nothing of its power, magic and charm in this bold and adventure-filled adaptation for the Unicorn stage.

Life Drawing – Surrealist Italian Cinema @ The Underdog Gallery | 15th March | 7 – 9PM

Inspired by Surrealist Italian cinema, expect amazing costumes based on fierce-out-of this-planet female characters. Three models – Maya, Manko and Carla – will steal Fellini’s and Garrone’s visual references to create three impossible women looking amazingly neurotic and disturbingly erotic.

This unmissable session will bring iconic, slightly psychotic and highly theatrical characters from the most remarkable cinematic masterpieces of Italy’s playful surrealism. Join us this time to create beautiful art in the name of Maya’s favourite dreams and nightmares! This session is one grand celebration of Italian surrealist cinema whose complex psychological stories have greatly influences not only our art but the our own perceptions of reality.

Beginners Welcome. £15 OTD.
