Published on 15th September 2017

Commuters using London Bridge station are being welcomed by striking ‘bollart’ that has appeared on St Thomas Street. 72 steel bollards have been transformed and are now dressed with artwork by Jennifer Abessira to create a swath of colour along the southern entrance to the brand new station concourse. MTArt and artist Jennifer Abessira were commissioned by Team London Bridge to create a temporary, creative interpretation of the London Bridge identity to greet commuters and see their journey in a new light.     DON’T THINK TWICE by artist Jennifer Abessira French artist Jennifer Abessira specialises in using images which reflect cultures and communities. With partners Network Rail and Costain, Team London Bridge will continue to look at ways of celebrating the London Bridge area in and around the new station, set to open spring 2018. Artist Jennifer Abessira and Marine Tanguy (CEO MTArt) said ‘Places can now be virtual and exist online in a more accessible space than ever before. The selection of archival images for Don’t Think Twice developed through this way that we can now discover landmarks from the internet and the narrative of Jennifer Abessira reveals the heritage and character of London Bridge from a truly contemporary perspective. We couldn’t envisage a better location in which to interpret the London Bridge identity and energise commuters as they experience this colourful interlude in their journeys.’ Nadia Broccardo, Team London Bridge CEO said, ‘The reinvention of something as utilitarian as a bollard to convey the creative vibrancy and heritage of London Bridge is something that will brighten the day of the many thousands of people every day. Rail passengers, visitors to The Shard, Guy’s Hospital patients, King’s College London students and local residents will all have a chance to appreciate this beautiful snapshot of the area’s cultural identity as they make their way along St Thomas Street.’  Don’t Think Twice 15th September – 26th November St Thomas Street, outside of London Bridge Station   Part of the London Design Festival 2017.
