Enchanted Cinema, Animated Journeys: Summer By The River

Published on 13th May 2022

The Enchanted Cinema: Animated Journeys invites you to help two musicians create live FX to award-winning international animation. “It’s just so unique and in a world of CGI and flashy 3D animation, the beautiful, textual, thought provoking world you opened the children up to is very special and memorable.” (Róisín – audience/ participant) Kieron & Gareth will invite you to the front of the Scoop stage to present the sound FX you’ve brought – a forest growing, an ocean, gnashing teeth, a flying horse, a penguin, an owl and a snail (what does a snail sound like, you may ask) – to bring to life the programme of hand-crafted animation from as early as 1926 (as old as the Queen!). Don’t worry if you don’t have an FX instrument to hand, as you have the best FX maker inside you – your voice! 1pm – 2.10pm FREE

Wild

Published on 07th June 2021

“You cannot tame something so happily wild…” Created by How It Ended Based on the book by Emily Hughes Wild’s home is the forest. Bears teach her how to eat, birds help her to speak, and foxes show her how to play. She is irrepressibly wild. Then one day, some new animals arrive. They look oddly like her – and they want to take Wild away. But what if she was happy where she was? Adapted from the glorious picture book by artist Emily Hughes, Wild is brought to life by inventive young company How It Ended (The Little Gardener, UK tour). This energetic story, told with atmospheric sound, movement and puppetry, celebrates the free spirit in all of us. Originally programmed for March 2020, we’re delighted to present this show in 2022 following its cancellation due to the pandemic. Ages 2-6 Tickets: £12 – £14 under 18s / £12 – £20 adults (holiday weekends at top price. Holidays 2 – 17 Apr) Find out more.

Aesop’s Fables

ALL THE MOST INTERESTING THINGS ARE AMBIGUOUS. Directed by Justin Audibert and Rachel Bagshaw 4-7 years and 8-12 years As far as we know, Aesop was a slave and storyteller who lived in ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BC. But although we don’t know much about the man himself, we do still have over 725 of his stories – passed down from generation to generation. We considered doing all 725 fables and then thought better of it. What we’ve done instead is asked a few of our favourite writers to select one fable and to re-tell it for today’s audience. The Unicorn is presenting two versions of the results: one for ages 4-7 and one for ages 8-12.  This production is a celebration of young and old, ancient and new – a tribute to how fresh, bold and vibrant the classics remain today. Plays in this show are: Filberts by Chris Thorpe, 2 Goats byNaomi Iizuka, Dog and Wolf by Kaite O’Reilly, [To Be An Ox] And Other Possible Aspirations by Somalia Seaton (with help from Ava Uzokwe), andThe Wolf & The Shepherd by Chris Goode.
