Medi-Culture Festival: A Celebration of Health

Published on 04th November 2021

Join us for a celebration of health and wellbeing in the heart of London Bridge – 24 November – 3 December, 2021. VIEW EVENTS PROGRAMME London Bridge has a long history connected with health and wellbeing, which was institutionalised after the first hospital was established in the area around the 12th century in what is now Southwark Cathedral. Followed by Old St Thomas’s Hospital in the 13th century and Thomas Guy Hospital in the 18th century, this area has seen the Black Death, the Cholera outbreak, the Spanish Flu and more recently the Covid-19 Pandemic. The people living through every single one of these medical disasters tried to do what they could to stay healthy, to stay safe, while the medical practitioners searched for answers to their needs and cures for the diseases. Washing hands, wearing masks, keeping social distance are not new things. Caring for people’s physical as well as mental health has been paramount throughout every single time period. This festival aims to celebrate the people and practices that have made a difference in the past and in the present. They will paint a picture of a community that has fought and continued to be resilient. This new festival is a celebration of health and wellbeing in the heart of London Bridge, running 24 November to 3 December, 2021.

Tower Bridge Yoga in the Walkways

Published on 03rd July 2017

Tower Bridge invites you to enjoy a unique London experience with exclusive sunrise yoga classes in the high-level Walkways, 42 metres above the River Thames. Now taking place twice a month, London-based yoga teacher Billie Woodcraft will have you striking the perfect downward facing dog through energetic vinyasa-flow yoga classes that will help you kick-start the working day. Designed to revitalise and inject energy into Londoners with spectacular river views from inside the most famous bridge in the world, the yoga classes will allow participants of all abilities to perfect their practice. Daring yogis can position themselves on the glass floor for a suspended view of road and pedestrian life, all moving at pace 42 metres beneath their feet. Participants may even witness the magic of the Bridge’s famous bascules raising for a river vessel! The glass floors along the Bridge’s East and West high-level Walkways each measure 11 metres long and 1.8 metres wide, and can withstand the weight equivalent to one elephant and two London Black Cabs. Space on the glass floor is limited so positions will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. A small number of mats are available so participants are advised to bring their own. However to maximise the experience on the new glass floor, it is recommended to use gripped gloves and socks. Cost: £25.00 per person Time: Wednesdays, 07.30am – 08.20am (arrive by 7.15am) and Saturdays, 08:00am – 08.50am (arrive by 07.45am) Tickets here.
