With exciting cultural development catalysed by the rejuvenation of one of the busiest stations in the country, an influx of new talent is being drawn to the area, cementing London Bridge’s status as one of London’s ultimate culinary destinations. Here’s the low down on the latest newcomers…   Duddell’s London Opening Autumn 2017 In a nutshell: Michelin star Cantonese restaurant meets contemporary gallery  Where: 6 St Thomas Street, Southwark, London SE1 9RY This self proclaimed ‘cultural destination’ is set to bring its unique brand of authentic Cantonese cuisine and creative cocktails to London Bridge; inhabiting the site of the historic St. Thomas’ Church. Like its Hong Kong counter-part, Duddell’s will also host rotating art programmes, reflecting the brand’s commitment to global initiatives.   Santo Remedio Opening September 2017 In a nutshell: A contemporary take on authentic Mexican dining Where: 152 Tooley St, London SE1 2TU A relocation from Shoreditch brings Mexico City inspired Santo Remedio to the former site of Magdalen restaurant on Tooley Street. Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes have created a ‘cantina’ /‘comedor’ set up across two floors, serving regional specialities like their signature guacamole with grasshoppers, paired with artisanal tequila and mezcal cocktails.   Bob’s Lobster Opening Autumn 2017 In a nutshell: Exquisite seafood with a no-nonsense attitude Where? St Thomas Street, London, SE1 3QU Serving on paper plates from their trusty ’57 VW camper since 2013, Bob’s Lobster’s philosophy is all about simple yet indulgent pleasures. This autumn they’ll be parking up the van to open their first permanent restaurant on St Thomas Street. Expect indulgent delights such as Lobster Bisque Poutine Fries, Spicy Ahi Tuna Tacos and Blood Orange Seabass Ceviche…   Londrino Opening November 2017 In a nutshell: World class creative cuisine with Portuguese flair Where: 36 Snowsfields Yard, London, SE1 3SZ With a 3 year stint at one of the world’s 50 Best Restaurants under his belt (Mugaritz is currently rated number 9) Chef Leandro Carreira’s debut solo venture is an exciting prospect. Originally from Lisbon, Carreira will observe Portuguese flavours, traditions and ingredients; however, the weekly menu will explore influences and techniques from Carreira’s “experience as a chef who now calls London his home”.   The Coal Shed Opening October 2017 In a nutshell: A celebration of meat, fish and fire.  Where: One Tower Bridge, 4 Crown Square, London, SE1 2SE Named as one of the best places to eat in the UK by the Observer Food Monthly Awards, The Coal Shed have built an impressive reputation at their first Brighton based restaurant. The London branch will combine the successes of The Coal Shed and sister restaurant The Salt Room to comprise a menu of speciality meat and fish dishes, cooked expertly over fire.   The Ivy Tower Bridge Opened July 2017 In a nutshell: Classic British-brasserie sophistication Where: One Tower Bridge, 4 Crown Square, London, SE1 2SE The Ivy Collection endeavours to bring a piece of ‘The Ivy magic’ from the West End to other parts of London, and the latest Tower Bridge addition doesn’t disappoint. Serving modern British classics from dawn until dusk, diners can enjoy breakfast, elevenses, weekend brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, light snacks, dinner and cocktails – all with a spectacular view of one of London’s most famous landmarks.   Baluchi-London Opened March 2017 In a nutshell: Impeccably executed Indian flavours with a modern twist Where? 181 Tooley St, London SE1 2JR Set in the spectacular Great Hall of the boutique LaLit London Hotel, Baluchi is the first branch of its kind in the UK. Chef Arup Dasupta has travelled far and wide to find his inspiration for this vibrant and innovative menu: a fusion of the finest organic ingredients and incredible Indian flavours.   The Rose  Relaunched June 2017 In a nutshell: Neighbourhood pub classics with personality  Where: 123 Snowsfields, London SE1 3ST The focus of The Rose has recently shifted from considered French fare to hearty home-comforts, responding to local demand for a quality, independent neighbourhood pub. However, with Manual Honey Butter Ribs and Pale Ale Battered Halloumi on the menu; this is not your average pub-grub.*   Tom Simmons Opened July 2017 In a nutshell: Rustic British, French and Welsh fusion  Where: 2 Still Walk, London SE1 2RA Acclaimed chef Tom Simmons and partner Lois Thomas opened their first restaurant in London at the end of July 2017. Tom was reached the quarter-finals in MasterChef – The Professionals in 2011 and most recently headed up the kitchen at Wolfscastle Country Hotel where he was awarded 2 AA Rosettes within the year. Tom’s relaxed and elegant cooking style takes influence from British and French cuisine with a nod to his Welsh heritage and a focus on thoughtfully sourced ingredients.   Feeling inspired?
